That said, I would tentatively recommend a melee class, or a gish type (my preference), and preferably one that can at least off-tank. I am unfortunately not an expert on Pathfinder's ludicrously-but-also-entertainingly complex build system - I've played the Owlcat games (several times.), but I generally either keep it simple by leveling a single class to 20 or use a build guide. You should be able to choose any path you've unlocked no matter which choices you've been making.

You do not actually commit to a mythic path for a couple acts, and your choices before that moment do not commit you to any path (although they may influence their associated mythic path later on, if you choose it). I know that at least some mythic paths have alignment-flavored subvariants, and I think Demon is one of them (roughly, I think you can be an angry demon or a cunning demon, although if that distinction is important to you you should google the preconditions so as not to get locked into a type you don't want). I think if you tried to play a chaotic evil Angel it would be pretty incoherent (and perhaps the game would eject you from the mythic questline at some point), but you can probably play a plausible neutral type. My sense from playing Angel and Azata is that you are in a sense committing to an alignment, and that the questlines only work naturally if you stay pretty close to it, but that you have significant wiggle room. I'm less sure re: the 2nd question - haven't played Demon. This is getting kind of in the weeds, but if you're not playing in turn-based mode you also might want to get the metamagic that makes your AOE selective, to keep your fireballs and whatnot useful even if your melee characters are mixed in with enemies. If you do go that way, note that you will spend most of the game fighting demons with spell and elemental resistances, and that you will probably want spell penetration feats, high spell "DC" (from high ability scores - CHA for a sorcerer - and gear), and in particular the mythic ability "ascendant element" if you want to be effective against them. I also think that casters may synergize less naturally with most mythic paths, although I could be a bit off there (e.g., I think that Azata works well, but Angel and Demon have more of a more melee focus).

That said, if you're going in relatively cold, are not familiar with the Pathfinder ruleset, and are not going to follow any kind of build guide, I am not sure I'd recommend a magic user type for a first playthrough, because it relies a bit more on resting, specific feat/ability choices, and knowledge of effective spells (particularly for a sorcerer, which commits you to specific spells). Like many Baldur's Gate-style RPGs, casters get much stronger in the middle and especially lategame, although certain cc spells (like Grease, say) can be pretty clutch early on. Also, melee is a lot less reliant on resting and micromanagement. My first playthrough was Bloodrager Primalist/Azata, and that was pretty fun, although bits of the Bloodrager class seemed to be bugged when I played it.īroadly, I would tentatively recommend that you look for a melee class, and in particular one that can at least off-tank in a pinch, because the NPCs tend to lean to ranged/spellcasting builds. There are a crazy variety of fun, powerful builds to choose from, though. I did an Angel/ melee Oracle playthrough that was pretty satisfying, loosely based on this build guide: The power jump from a merged spellbook is very nice, and Angel spells are very, very powerful.

If you do decide to go with the Angel mythic path, a very natural choice is a spellcasting class that merges its spellbook with Angel. You may or may not want to take the Angel route as a matter of taste, though. This may be slightly nonresponsive to your question if your only concern is class mechanics, but I would recommend going with an build that fits well with the Angel mythic path, just because the Angel class story is significantly more elaborate and better integrated with the main plot than the other paths I've tried (specifically, Trickster and Azata).
